Broken

we watched the movie last night
the one everyone is talking about
the movie of the year at the time
when we have only recently decided
that a parting has come between us
my lover shed some tears at the end
before the lights came up
I woke up later that night
in my own separate bed in my room
in the house we still share together
my former lover and me
thinking of the movie
and what has come to pass for
our lives and where I am going
and where I will end up
darkened and alone in some dusty
corner of the country
waiting for that last true love
to put my arms around and sleep
