Early out

At some time this afternoon a man
just entering middle age but fully afire
with the flame of self-pity and loss
of meaning that comes with this time of life
decided to go home early and have a nap:
correcting the urge to crinkle
the eyes and slouch
and give up and wonder
what would happen if
he left his job
and didn't
come back,
ever.
