Background

You lost and lonesome rascal,
imagining the center when lost
at edges of the crowds, always
behind someone in the photos,
looking in, looking to see
if anybody is looking at you
and seeing your sensitive,
intelligent heart hidden
underneath the faraway face.
You lost and lonely soul,
with conversations playing
in your mind -- the cutting remark,
the dramatic exit, the knowing
more than you're saying
-- even now I would say to you,
you rascal: stop,
get up and walk out
into the world and leave
your black and white mind
behind, walk from your
crumbling ego and watch
the dawn even now rising
over our lost and lonely world.
